Roundup Day 4

A day of wonderful birds and really interesting visitors to our humble ringing site.  The rate of wader entrapment has greatly increased as you can see below in the summary and we have added new species in the form of Lapland Bunting, Northern Wheatear and Turnstone.  In addition we have confirmed that our mystery pipit is, as we had hoped a juvenile Red-throated pipit.  All in all a good day.  For those who have posted comments thank-you, we do read and note them as witnessed by the inclusion of the Bluethroat pictures below.

Our visitors today have been a French bird ringer Dr Arnaud le Dru and his wife and the wife and daughter of our host Tormud.  Elin and daughter Lila have added a sense of fun to our afternoon while Arnaud (in addition to his humour)  has given us a French insight into the birds and ringing in general.  All in all a very good day.

Here we see the lovely Lila interviewing a Dunlin

Arnaud (with the beard) discussing birds with Anders (Seated and bearded)  are all international ringers equipped with beards? does this explain why the British ringers don't get invited to travel often or is it...................

that we are a bit strange and sit in the mud on the shore to extract our birds

Even the birds have been calm today ad witnessed by the Bluethroat who showed a stiff upper lip through the ringing process and even when his friend completely lost it in the photo shoot

The highlights of the day however remain the improved success with the waders like this Turnstone.

and the first Lapland Bunting of the trip a ringing tick for our data man and blog writer Paul (well deserved eh)

Tomorrow we are hoping to receive visitors from the local community for an open ringing demonstration following a visit from a local journalist at the weekend  ..  all we can hope for is another day like today
